Firestopping Solutions

Have you discovered that previous contractors had just butchered the fire rated walls in your building. Many contractors will just drill or hammer an opening through fire rated walls to route new pipes, conduits, or wiring. Why did they do this? Perhaps they just do not know any better, they could just be lazy, or they just do not care. At times we see at least an effort like applying an intumescent caulk or putty around the cable(s). We could give those contractors an "A" for effort but actually they get and "F" for fire.
